Ladybug

Sleeping Ladybug

A ladybug sleeping on a blade of grass with some fringe pods in the background.  Photographed along the American River Parkway this last week.  It is that time of year ago with wildflowers in bloom and a great time to get out with your macro capable lens to capture some picturesque images.

This image and the ones below were captured with a Canon EOS 90D cropped DSLR with a 100mm L-series IS f/2.8 lens.  The best time to photograph insects like the ladybug above in this manner will be early in the morning when it is still too cold for them to become active, allowing more time to get better compositional results.  The winds also tend to be less, enabling you to use a slower shutter speed in order to increase the aperture for better depth-of-field control.
